CMS EHR Incentive Program Measures: data and documentation
As of the end of 2016, over 60 percent of all U.S. office-based physicians (MD/DO) have demonstrated meaningful use of certified health IT in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs. Over twenty percent of nurse practitioners (NPs) and 2 percent of physician assistants (PAs) have demonstrated meaningful use of certified health IT.
Note: The denominators include all U.S. physicians, NPs, and PAs. Some of these individuals may not be eligible for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs. Therefore, these values underestimate the proportion of eligible providers who have achieved meaningful use. Though CMS provides a national estimate of all office-based health care professionals eligible to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs, no such count exists at the state level. ONC, therefore, uses the count of all office-based physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants see Source at the state level to estimate participation rates below the national level.
See Quick Stat #45 for participation data on eligible and Critical Access hospitals.
In depth eligibility criteria for this program can be found at the CMS site, <cms.gov>.
